The Pleasant Valley varsity girls field hockey team lost 3-1 to Davis in the CIF Northern Section Regional final Saturday night.

“The championship game was the best field hockey game PV field hockey has played in my nine years of coaching,” said Vikings’ coach Bill Flory.” They controlled the ball, created shots and never let up. The ball just didn’t find the goal often enough. We may not have won the game, but we didn’t lose.”

The Vikings scored the game’s first goal 6 minutes and 23 seconds into the first period. Riley Kucich scored off an assist from Kendall Greytok.

Davis was able to tie the score a little more than a minute later.

Two minutes after that, Davis struck again to claim a 2-1 lead. Both goals came off short corners.

The score remained 2-1 until late in the fourth period, when Davis scored to put the game out of reach with 2:43 left.

The loss culminated a day where the Vikings won their group before losing in the final to Davis.

The Vikings opened the regional tournament with a 2-0 win over Chico High on the strength of two first-period goals.

The first goal was scored by Kucich of an assist from Greytok. Emma Devine assisted Bella Espinosa’s goal that gave the Vikings the 2-0.

The Vikings won their second game of the day defeating Bella Vista 1-0. Kyra Letcher scored the lone Viking goal on an assist from Greytok.

Ella Riccomini and Greytok were named to the All-Tournament.
