Annual Turkey Trot set for Corning High

CORNING » The 2021 Annual Turkey Trot is set to take place at Corning High School from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20.

The Turkey Trot is in memory of Andrew Hernandez to raise awareness for suicide and depression. The Hernandez family lost Andrew Hernandez to suicide in 2018. This 5k race is intended to bring people together and to offer mental health resources.

Registration for the event starts at 7:30 a.m. in front of Corning High School. The 5k race consists of two laps around the school campus. There will be snacks, water, coffee and shirts available for purchase.

General admission is $15, student admission is $10, and kids under five can race for free.

The Turkey Trot will start at 8 a.m. with the official 5k race starting at 8:30 a.m. after the kid races. There are two kid races, one for ages one through five and a second one for ages six through 10.

The event is set to start off with a speech from Corning High School’s Psychologist Teresa Moyer, regarding mental health. Sam Mamula, Andrew’s best friend, will speak after.

Prizes donated by community members will be given to the race winners for male and female adult runners. Remaining prizes will be raffled off. There will be prizes for the kid races, but none prizes for teams.

The amount of money raised for this year’s Turkey Trot and all of the winners will be announced at the end of the event.

People are encouraged to dress as a turkey, for fun. Tickets for the event can be purchased on the 2021 Annual Turkey Trot Facebook Page or at the event. All proceeds of the event go to the Andrew Hernandez Community Service Scholarship Fund.
