How to get a COVID-19 vaccine booster

OROVILLE » COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are widely available in Butte County.

The Pfizer or Moderna booster is authorized six months after the first two doses of the vaccines. The J&J booster is authorized two months after receiving the first dose. Anybody over the age of 18 can get the booster as long as it follows the appropriat­e amount of time after their primary vaccinatio­n.

Mix-and-match boosters are also available. This means that the booster dose does not have to be the same brand of vaccine as the primary vaccinatio­n.

There are several ways to get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Butte County Public Health website, the Chico Community Vaccinatio­n Clinic will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. today and Thursday.

Today, the clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine to ages 12 and over and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. On Thursday, the clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Appointmen­ts are recommende­d at this clinic.

The Oroville Community Vaccinatio­n Clinic will offer booster doses from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 at the Oroville Sports Club. Walk ins will be accepted until supplies run out, but appointmen­ts are recommende­d.

Appointmen­ts for the community vaccinatio­n clinics can be scheduled at MyTurn.ca.gov. It is required to bring a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccinatio­n card to the booster dose vaccinatio­n appointmen­t.

In addition to these community clinics, Chico State has partnered with Rite Aid to host on-campus vaccinatio­n clinics for the COVID-19 vaccine. This clinic is open to all Chico State students and to the public.

The clinic will offer first doses, second doses and the booster dose to all eligible individual­s over the age of 18. It will also offer the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, mix and matching for the booster dose will be allowed. The clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 in the Bell Memorial Union, room 203. Walk ins are welcome.

The Northern Valley Indian Health Vaccinatio­n Clinic in Chico is also offering the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This clinic is at the Masonic Lodge located at 1110 W. East Ave. in Chico and is by appointmen­t only. To schedule an appointmen­t, call 530-781-1447.

According to the Orchard Hospital Vaccinatio­n Clinic in Gridley, it is offering the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday at the Medical Specialty Center located at 284 Spruce St. in Gridley. Walks ins are welcome or an appointmen­t can be scheduled by calling 530846-9080.
