Ridge Quilters’ Guild Biennial Home Tour on tap this weekend

- By Kim Morris

It’s that time of the year! The Ridge Quilters’ Guild Biennial Home Tour is just around the corner and will take place on Dec. 4 and 5.

This wonderful fundraiser has become a holiday tradition for north state quilters and non-quilters alike.

Four families will open their homes to share their holiday cheer and a peek at their decorations and quilts, quilts, quilts! There will also be refreshments and drawings for wonderful prizes.

All four of our homeowners lost homes during the 2018 Camp Fire. Two of the homes have been rebuilt on their original lots and two survived the fire and were purchased since. Each homeowner shares a quilters’ heart. In addition to establishing their new homes they are moved to serve the community through their philanthropic work with the Guild.

It has been said that “Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.” (Thank you Bob Kerrey). As quilters, we know the meaning of that statement through our community quilts outreach programs as the givers of unexpected kindness.

That sentiment is even more poignant now after being the recipient of such unexpected kindness after the darkness that followed our own personal disaster.

The guild has received one very special act of kindness. After the fire, we were contacted by Eleanor Burns, a well- known quilter and book author. She wanted to send us one of her quilts to be used in any way we might choose. The guild is showcasing her quilt as next year’s opportunity quilt. This lovely work of art will be on display at one of our homes during the tour.

Ridge Quilters’ Guild has redoubled its’ efforts to provide comfort to those in need. We have been involved in quilt distributions to those affected by the North Complex fire and the Dixie Fire as well as to survivors of the Camp Fire in our own back yard. We are committed to paying that overwhelming kindness forward.

We hope you will join us for our Home Tour. In addition to viewing the homes this is a wonderful opportunity for you to see the rebuilding of Paradise in action. Over a thousand homes are completed and occupied with close to another thousand in process. Come share our joy in the holiday season!

For your safety and ours, masks are required.

Tickets to the event, a $10 donation, can be purchased at Honey Run Quilters (inside Cathy’s Sew and Vac) at 2418 Cohasset Road, Chico; Bobbi’s Boutique at 6181 Skyway, Paradise; and Sew N Piece at 410 Fourth St., Marysville.
