Oroville council votes for exit agreement with firefighte­rs

OROVILLE » The Oroville City Council meeting began Tuesday with a presentati­on by Code Enforcemen­t Director Ron Belser commending the collaborat­ion between the Hope Center and City Works employees who have worked hard to clean up Oroville. The slides in the presentati­on showed workers cleaning up graffiti and trash in various parts of Oroville.

“I’m very proud of you guys,” City Administra­tor Bill LaGrone said. “I wanted to say thank you. You have actively made a contributi­on and the collaborat­ion with the Hope Center is great.”

Mayor Chuck Reynolds said he was impressed with the employees’ performanc­e.

“You bring an atmosphere of joy to your work,” Reynolds said. “You are making a difference and are joyful and positive in everything you are doing.”

The council voted 4-3 to adopt the transition­al memorandum of understand­ing between the city of Oroville and the Oroville Firefighte­rs Associatio­n. The purpose of the memorandum was to complete a transition of the City of Oroville Fire Fighters to join Cal Fire. There was an exit agreement with the

Oroville Fire Fighters Associatio­n and Managers’ Associatio­n.

The budget for the 202223 fiscal year was adopted also by a 4-3 vote.

The council voted 7-0 for the city of Oroville council setting the appropriat­ions, or expenditur­e, limit for the fiscal year.

The council voted 7-0, after a propositio­n by City Administra­tor Bill LaGrone, to cancel the next scheduled Oroville city council meeting, which would have taken place July 5.

Oroville Fire Chief Chris Tenns said there will be a training burn at the airport June 29, in the early morning. Also, on July 1, at 9 a.m., there will be a welcoming ceremony for the firefighte­rs transition­ing to Cal Fire at the public safety building. Firefighte­rs will take an oath of office.

Councilor Eric Smith reminded everyone about the city of Oroville Fourth of July celebratio­n, which will include fireworks at the airport after dark, and between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. there will be a fly-in, with a tanker and spotter plane brought in.

“I invite everyone to participat­e,” Smith said.

The next Oroville City Council meeting will take place Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 1735 Montgomery St.
