Oroville council votes for exit agreement with firefighters
OROVILLE » The Oroville City Council meeting began Tuesday with a presentation by Code Enforcement Director Ron Belser commending the collaboration between the Hope Center and City Works employees who have worked hard to clean up Oroville. The slides in the presentation showed workers cleaning up graffiti and trash in various parts of Oroville.
“I’m very proud of you guys,” City Administrator Bill LaGrone said. “I wanted to say thank you. You have actively made a contribution and the collaboration with the Hope Center is great.”
Mayor Chuck Reynolds said he was impressed with the employees’ performance.
“You bring an atmosphere of joy to your work,” Reynolds said. “You are making a difference and are joyful and positive in everything you are doing.”
The council voted 4-3 to adopt the transitional memorandum of understanding between the city of Oroville and the Oroville Firefighters Association. The purpose of the memorandum was to complete a transition of the City of Oroville Fire Fighters to join Cal Fire. There was an exit agreement with the
Oroville Fire Fighters Association and Managers’ Association.
The budget for the 202223 fiscal year was adopted also by a 4-3 vote.
The council voted 7-0 for the city of Oroville council setting the appropriations, or expenditure, limit for the fiscal year.
The council voted 7-0, after a proposition by City Administrator Bill LaGrone, to cancel the next scheduled Oroville city council meeting, which would have taken place July 5.
Oroville Fire Chief Chris Tenns said there will be a training burn at the airport June 29, in the early morning. Also, on July 1, at 9 a.m., there will be a welcoming ceremony for the firefighters transitioning to Cal Fire at the public safety building. Firefighters will take an oath of office.
Councilor Eric Smith reminded everyone about the city of Oroville Fourth of July celebration, which will include fireworks at the airport after dark, and between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. there will be a fly-in, with a tanker and spotter plane brought in.
“I invite everyone to participate,” Smith said.
The next Oroville City Council meeting will take place Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 1735 Montgomery St.
