SCOTTY’S LANDING, CHICO LANDMARK, UP FOR SALE

- By Kimberly Morales kmorales@chicoer.com

CHICO >> Scotty’s Landing, a local gem that has sat on the bank of the Sacramento River for over 65 years, is looking for a new owner.

The bar and grill that features live music, a boat landing and $4 tube rental service for floating on the river has been listed on showcase. com for $499,000.

Owner John Scott said that deteriorating health conditions has played a factor on his ability to maintain the restaurant.

“I’m at the point where I’m not healthy,” said Scott. “I work seven days a week, working double shifts — I’m trying to retire and relax but I also want somebody else to have it, take it over so this can keep going — that’s why I’m trying to sell it before I die — it’s historical landmark.”

In the past, the boat launch has also been utilized by police and emergency personnel such as the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue said Scott.

“I’ve had a great life that nobody has bad before,” said Scott. “Just being here with all the great people in the world — movie stars, government people from all over the world come here to hunt, fish. They come to Scotty’s because people don’t know who they are and they can relax and be themselves. I know a lot of great people and this is a nice place to be.”

Steve Barrier keeps his boat at Scotty’s Landing for six months out of the year as he fishes along the river. The restaurant has become a frequent stop for him.

“You come here at 3:30 and the whole gang will be here,” said Barrier. “We all know each other — you’ll be here and all of a sudden you’ll say that you got to go home and the next thing you know you’ve said it 20 times and you’re still here — nobody every fights or argues here. You can be in a bad mood, come here and leave in a good mood.”

Century 21 Real Estate Agent Maya Noble says that Scotty’s Landing is a oneof-a-kind situation on the river.

“When I came here from the Bay Area, they were still doing the weddings and people are still going inside, but I still think that this can still be turned around fast,” said Noble. “I think that this community just wants a spot on the river.”

More information about the listing can be found on showcase.com or by calling Noble at 530-717-3302.
