Keeping up the momentum it has had going since 2006, Chico State earned a spot in the Princeton Review’s “Best Business Schools for 2023.”

It has never left the list in its past 18 editions. The list names on-campus Master’s of Business Administration programs recommended by the Princeton Review, an educational services organization based in Framingham, Massachussetts, about 25 miles west of Boston.

The Princeton Review provides test preparation, admission resources and tutoring for students.

“We strongly recommend (Chico State) as an outstanding choice for anyone considering earning an oncampus or online MBA” degrees, said Rob Franek, the Princeton Review’s editorin-chief who oversees the rankings. “The business school’s academic program is excellent and its experiential components are robust.

“Its students — on-campus as well as online — also have awesome opportunities to interact with faculty and fellow MBA candidates from California and beyond.”

Chico State is one of 243 schools in the nation on the list, though schools aren’t individually ranked. The university is one of 62 schools in the Western states that made the list.

According to the listing, Chico State has a 63% acceptance rate and received 2,035 applications during the last reporting period. There are 112 people enrolled in the online program. The undergraduate grade-point average among its students averages 3.23 while the Graduate Management Admission Test — GMAT — average score is 570.

That test assesses certain skills an applicant needs for admission to a graduate management program such as the one Chico State offers for business students. The range of scores is 200 to 800.

Chico State MBA graduates earn an average of $71,588 annually, according to the Princeton Review’s collected data.

In addition, Chico State finds itself among some prestigious institutions on the list, including Stanford, Yale, Howard, Purdue and New York universities. The Princeton Review describes its information as a tabulation “based on institutional data the company gathers from administrators at business schools as well as surveys of students attending the schools who rate and report on their experiences at them.

“The rankings for 2023 are based on surveys in 2021-22 of administrators at 397 business schools offering on-campus and/ or online MBAs, and surveys of 29,900 students enrolled in the schools over the past three academic years.”

The Princeton Review says the “Our Best On-Campus MBA” cohort includes 243 business schools the organization selected using a combination of factors, including institutional and student survey data. The data used includes career outcomes, admissions selectivity and academic rigor, among others.

“Within that cohort we report the top 10 business schools for each of 18 categories. The categories cover topics that we think prospective applicants might want to know or would ask during a campus visit, including academics, career prospects, and campus diversity,” the organization’s website explains.

Also, Princeton Review does not attach numerical rankings to schools. “We believe that hierarchical ranking lists that focus solely on academics offer very little value to students and only add to the stress of applying to business school.

“We don’t have a ‘Best Overall Academics’ ranking list, nor do we rank the schools on a single list, because we believe each of the schools included offers outstanding academics,” the organization explained.
