Some facts about the Chico Peace Alliance

-

Recent letters to the E-R have misrepresented the Chico Peace Alliance and its members. We won't respond directly to the incorrect assumptions and factual errors in those letters. Rather, we want to inform readers about the work of the Chico Peace Alliance and invite them to join in our activism.

We are a growing group of local people who support nonviolent advocacy for peace and social justice — locally, nationally, and globally. Recent monthly gatherings have focused on alternatives to violence, local housing needs, reconciliation after violence, legislative advocacy, and the war in Ukraine. We have working groups that offer peace education programs in local schools, that help our communities and country disengage from militarism and war, and that support social and economic justice in our community.

The Chico Peace Alliance has formed links with local groups like the Peace Endeavor Vigil and Concerned Citizens for Justice. We have joined the national programs of Peace Action and the Friends' Committee on National Legislation.

Can such work make a difference? We're not naive, and we acknowledge the power of warmongers around the world. But we also believe that humanity must put an end to war, and that people's opposition to the planet's endless wars is near universal. We cannot remain silent.
