Orland football team returns to section final

Trojans vying for second straight NSCIF D-III championsh­ip

The Orland High School football team defeated Gridley 42-6 in the Northern Section Division III semifinals Friday in Orland.

The Trojans (10-1) entered as the No. 2 seed, and the Bulldogs (8-4) entered as the No. 3 seed.

Orland led 14-3 after the first quarter, 21-6 at halftime and 35-6 after the third quarter.

Orland had two passing touchdowns and four two rushing touchdowns. Both of Gridley's scores came on field goals in the first and second quarter.

After No. 5 Lassen (7-5) upset the No. 1 seed University Prep 27-14 Friday night, Orland now hosts the

NSCIF D-III championsh­ip at 7 p.m. Saturday in Orland.

WINTERS 29, HAMILTON 0 >> The No. 2 seed Winters defeated No. 3 Hamilton in the NSCIF D-IV semifinals on Friday night in Winters.

Winters led 8-0 after the first quarter, 15-0 at halftime and 29-0 after the third quarter.

All four of Winters' touchdowns came rushing the ball.

Winters (8-3) plays at No. 1 Colusa (11-0) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the

NSCIF D-IV championsh­ip. Colusa defeated No. 4 East Nicholas 14-7 Friday.

Hamilton finishes its season 9-3. BIGGS 6, WEED 0 >> The No. 3 seed in the NSCIF D-V bracket, Biggs defeated No. 2 Weed Friday night in Weed.

The lone score of the game by the Wolverines came in the fourth quarter.

Biggs (9-3) travels to Portola to face the No. 1 seed Tigers (11-0) at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the NSCIF D-V championsh­ip.

PORTOLA 40, LOS MOLINOS 14 >> The No. 1 seed in the NSCIF D-V bracket defeated No. 4 Los Molinos on Friday in Portola.
