PHOTOGRAPHY I N THE FIELD
This 1865 photo shows the equipment and crew of the Sam A. Cooley studio in the field, probably in Georgia. Included in the shot are the darkroom cart, supply wagon and crew. A camera has been set up on a tripod at right. The man next to it has a black cloth over his left arm, and in his right hand is a wooden dark frame. These men were the “technology wonks” of a bygone era. One of Mathew Brady’s assistants documents railroads outside of Atlanta, Georgia. This side view shows the twopart camera body, the base plate and tripod, and the bellows. The small doors that covered the lens in this camera are open.
