One reason so many women over 40 toss and turn at night: As we age, the brain becomes more sensitive to light, which switches off enzymes that manufacture the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. But Cornell University scientists say blocking light with a sleep mask doubles melatonin production, helping women drift off 20 minutes sooner and sleep soundly all night.
