Mental perk of playing music
It can preserve your ability to quickly process and respond to information, suggest findings in the journal Brain and Cognition. In a small study of musicians and non-musicians, University of Montreal investigators found that participants who played an instrument reacted up to 25 percent faster to external stimuli such as sound and touch than their non-musical counterparts. The study authors explain that playing music requires the use of multiple senses simultaneously, which strengthens brain pathways to enhance reaction time.
