Extend the life of a bouquet

-

The “just because” spring bouquet you received from a friend will make a gorgeous and sweet-smelling centerpiece on your dining room table. To keep the blooms looking lovely for a week or longer, try this: Fill the vase with water as usual, then add 1 Tbs. of honey and 1 Tbs. of vinegar and stir before arranging the flowers. Repeat every time you refresh the water. Honey’s high sugar content acts as nourishment for the flowers while the slightly acidic vinegar will help kill off any bacteria that would otherwise cause the blooms to wilt.
