To nix spots on a rug, fill a spray bottle with 1 part ammonia and 3 parts hot water. Spritz liberally on the stain. Cover with a damp white cloth and heat the cloth with an iron set on steam for 30 seconds. The ammonia dissolves stains and the heat expands the rug’s fibers so the ammonia goes deeper. (Be sure to spot-test first.)
