These stunning updos offer age-defying benefits and help you beat the heat!

Volumizes thin hair

A half-up, half-down ’do with subtle waves offers bouncy texture to finer strands while face-framing pieces in front conceal sparser areas along the hairline and temples. Even better? Volume at the crown creates a ventlike effect to prevent the scalp from sweating.

TO DO: Wrap 1" sections of hair around a 1" curling iron. Once cool, back-comb a small section of hair at the crown. Then, leaving out 1" face-framing sections on each side, pull a 3" section of hair on each side from behind the loose pieces and pin them back.

Slims the face

A side braid directs the eye up and down while front twists add height to optically elongate and slim the face. Plus, this style lifts hair off the face and neck and reins in frizzprone strands.

TO DO: Create a middle part and grab a section of hair on one side. Loosely roll the section toward the middle of the back of the head; pin. Repeat on the other side. Gather all hair in back into a low pony, braid the tail and secure with a clear elastic. Gently pull apart each section of the braid to plump it up, then sling over one shoulder.

Frames features

Sweeping strands over one shoulder has multiple faceflattering benefits: The pinned-back side highlights a pretty neck while cascading waves on the loose side frame the face for a soft, feminine feel. Plus, the sultry style keeps hair off the neck to ward off overheating and sweating.

TO DO: Wrap 1" sections of hair around a 1" curling iron. Once cool, run your fingers through the curls for natural-looking waves. Next, create a deep side part and sweep all hair over one shoulder. Pin back hair on the lighter side of the part; set with hairspray.

Lifts eyes and cheeks

A high pony gently pulls skin up at the forehead to the cheekbones, plus directs attention vertically for a face-lift effect. And when the tail swings back and forth, it acts like a fan to help cool off the back of the neck.

TO DO: Flatiron dry hair, then comb up and secure into a tight ponytail at the crown. Lightly tease mid-tail for added volume.
