Green and jewel-toned bouquet

-

WHAT’S NEW

This summer, f lorists are mixing bright jewel-toned blooms with pretty green flowers to create lovely-meets-lively seasonal displays. “Here, the green sedum and hydrangea flowers form a soft base that allows the pretty purple zinnias to pop,” notes floral expert Deborah Pomroy Moyer. “Between the complementary hues and the bouquet’s relaxed style, it’s sure to win smiles from everyone!”

GET THE LOOK

Start by filling a 6" light-green vase halfway with water. Cut 10 purple zinnias, 10 green hydrangeas and 10 green sedum to lengths between 8 and 10 inches. Insert the hydrangeas and sedum stems first, forming a soft, rounded base. Then insert the zinnias evenly throughout the bunch. Fill in any gaps with a handful of lavender verbena, purple salvia and greenery, like red cabbage leaves, and insert into the bouquet.

INSIDER’S SECRET

Garden blooms often have soft stems that start to droop when they’re displayed in the summer heat. If your bouquet begins to look faint, pros suggest slipping three wood skewers into the heart of the arrangement, angling them to create a “tepee” in the center. This triangular framework provides a makeshift trellis that will prop up leaning flowers—instantly!
