First For Women

The soft swirl

-

This updo is “undone” enough to wear to a casual pool party yet still sophisticated enough for a fancy wedding, says Philip Carreon, a hairstylist with Eufora hair care who has worked with Annette Bening and Maria Bello. “And the bun in back is designed to hold up through heat, wind and sweat!” The age-defying bonus? Tendrils skim over the side of the face to help mask crow’s-feet.

YOU’LL NEED: 1" curling iron, teasing comb, hair elastic, bobby pins

STEP 1: Create a side part and backcomb at the crown. Then use an elastic to secure hair into a center-set ponytail leaving out a 2" face-framing section on each side.

STEP 2: Separate the hair in the tail into three sections. Then loosely wind each section around the base (each in a different direction) to form a “messy” bun and pin in place.

STEP 3: Wrap each tendril around a 1" curling iron. Once cool, run fingers through to loosen the curls.
