Fend off fleas in the winter
Cold temperatures mean a higher risk of fleas indoors—the critters don’t hibernate, so they seek out warm places like your carpet. Banish them with salt, which acts as a dehydrating agent to kill the pests. To do: Sprinkle finely ground salt on carpets; let sit for an hour. Vacuum it up, then empty the canister in the outside garbage. Repeat every two days for a week to ensure you’ve killed every egg.
