Rosacea
Low estrogen levels can lead to increased rosacea flare-ups. To soothe skin, dermatologist Dendy Engleman, M.D., recommends a green tea toner. “The tea’s anti-inflammatory properties have a calming effect that reduces redness and promotes healing.” The effect is so powerful that women who apply green tea topically can see a 70 percent improvement in rosacea within four weeks, according to one study.
TO DO: Steep 3 green tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water for 10 minutes; remove bags. Refrigerate liquid until cool and pour into a spray bottle, then add in 2 tsp. of aloe vera gel (its enzymes reduce swelling); shake. Store in the fridge (the coolness constricts blood vessels) and spritz onto skin twice a day for instant relief as well as an overall reduction in redness in 30 days. Age-related drops in cheek-plumping fat can leave the face looking droopy. But a small dab of a cream highlighter onto the tops of cheekbones reflects light onto the high points of the face so features appear lifted.
