Cheers-worthy St. Patrick’s Day cocktails
Emerald Isle
Bloody Mary
Delicious with green eggs and ham or alongside corned beef, this savory cocktail calls for potato vodka to keep the drink grain-free. To make: In blender, puree 2 yellow tomatoes, 2 tomatillos, 2 stalks celery, 1 tsp. prepared horseradish, 1⁄2 tsp. cumin, the juice of 1 lime, a small handful of cilantro and salt and pepper to taste. Pour 2 oz. potato vodka into 2 glasses. Top with Bloody Mary mixture.
Garnish as desired.
Kiss Me I’m Irish
Margarita
Made from agave cactus, tequila is a great grain-free option. We blended it with kale and pineapple for a sip that’s festive and phytonutrient-rich. To make: In blender, puree 1 cup clean kale (stems removed), 1 cup frozen pineapple, 1⁄4 cup lime juice, 1⁄4 cup tequila and 2 Tbs. agave nectar.
Divide between 2 glasses. Brandy is distilled from fruit juice instead of grains, so it’s a great detox-friendly base for a sweet martini. To make: In cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 oz. apple brandy, 1 oz. vermouth and 1⁄2 tsp. lemon juice. Shake well; strain into cocktail glass. Tint with green food coloring.
Garnish with apple slice.
