Simple way to pest-proof a jack-o’-lantern

-

Every year, you and the little ones have a blast carving pumpkins to display on your front porch. The problem? All your efforts go to waste when neighborhood critters show up to enjoy your gourds. To keep the pests away, brush a liberal amount of lemon juice on the carved edges inside your pumpkin. The strong citrus scent will deter any hungry pests that come by. Bonus: The lemon juice also extends the life of your pumpkin since it prevents oxygen from interacting with enzymes in the pumpkin, causing it to rot.
