“I work several part-time jobs and was looking for a way to make some extra cash. I learned about the app Postmates [Postmates.com] when I was sick and used it to have cough medicine delivered to me. When I found out they were hiring couriers to help their clients save time, it seemed like a fun way to make money.

“Getting started was easy. After I submitted an application and they ran a background check, I received a Postmates debit card so I could pay for the orders I had to pick up. Once I downloaded the app, I set it up for automatic notifications so I could learn about new gigs.

“I primarily deliver coffee and lunch orders to offices or stay-at-home moms. I’m also busy on the weekends delivering convenience-store items to clients’ homes.

“I use my bike to make deliveries, but you can also drive or walk. The pay for each gig varies, but I can make up to $25 an hour. Postmates also offers bonuses. For example, I can make an extra $2 per delivery during peak times. Or if I make a certain number of deliveries within a time limit, I can make up to $700 extra in one weekend. I usually work 30 hours a week, and I make up to $3,000 a month.

“I love this work because it’s flexible, I have a lot of regular clients and it’s great exercise—I even lost about 10 pounds doing it! The money I make pays the bills, goes toward savings or pays for a splurge like a massage or acting classes.”
