Speed detox, slim faster!
A diet low in mycotoxins and high in healing nutrients recharges the liver to jump-start metabolism. And engaging in these easy (and enjoyable!) activities will maximize mycotoxin removal: SOAK AWAY TOXINS Dissolving 3 cups of Epsom salts in a tubful of water saturates the bath with magnesium sulfate. “This allows your body to absorb sulfur from the salts, which aids in detoxification while you bathe,” asserts
Jill Carnahan, M.D. For best results, Dr. Carnahan advises taking a 20-minute Epsom salts soak in hot water at least three times a week.
JUMP UP AND DOWN
Bouncing on a rebounder or mini trampoline provides a sweatbreaking workout that burns 68% more calories than jogging. But Fred Pescatore, M.D., advises “rebounding” on a mini trampoline for 10 to 20 minutes three times a week for an additional reason: “It stimulates the body’s waste-disposal system—the lymphatic system— to enhance the removal of toxins.” One we like: Upper Bounce 40" Mini
Foldable Rebounder with Handrail ($78, Walmart.com). And since yoga and gentle stretching have a similar impact, he advises engaging in these activities often.
RELAX IN A SAUNA
“While anything that makes you sweat stimulates the release of stored toxins, I’m a huge fan of farinfrared saunas,” says Dr. Pescatore, who explains that the heat they supply penetrates cells and tissues better than conventional saunas. “And because they heat the body directly, rather than heating the air around you, you can stay in them longer and more comfortably.” While even one weekly sauna will boost detoxification, for optimal benefits, he recommends at least three 20-minute sessions per week (check local spas and fitness centers to find a far-infrared sauna near you). Slimming bonus: A study published in BioMed Research International found that infrared saunas raised participants’ metabolic rates so they burned up to 114 calories in just 10 minutes.
