What if you could lose as much weight as you wanted—quickly, effortlessly and looking toned to boot? Impossible, you say? Not so, says 53-year-old Valerie Moore. “I feel like I’ve been given a new life,” she raves. “Despite shedding nearly 100 pounds, I don’t have any loose or sagging skin. I feel like I’m in my 20s again!” Valerie’s secret? She and thousands of women like her have benefited from a unique twist on keto developed by Eric Berg, D.C., a weight-loss and nutrition expert who’s been in practice for 30 years.

A few years ago, Dr. Berg noticed that his patients losing weight on a keto diet had one big drawback: sagging skin. “They were thinner, but they also looked older, their faces wrinkled and sunken,” he recalls. Disturbed to realize that the diet he’d prescribed might be doing harm as well as good, Dr. Berg began to search for the reason for this effect on women over 50.

What he found: Though the women were eating plenty of protein, they were starving for the nutrient at the cellular level.

Specifically, they were missing branchedchain amino acids (BCAAs), which help build muscle mass and skinfirming collagen and elastin. “When the body doesn’t have branched-chain amino acids, you end up with flabby skin and signs of aging,” explains Dr. Berg. Since BCAAs are abundant in keto-friendly foods—like milk, turkey and eggs—he didn’t understand how his patients weren’t getting enough until he turned to the scientific literature.

It turns out that the hormone insulin is the doorman that allows BCAAs into cells—but most women carrying excess weight are insulin-resistant. It’s as if the doors to our cells are nailed shut. No BCAAs can get in. No muscle gets built. No elastin is produced. As a result, metabolism slows and skin starts to sag. “Here you are, eating all this protein on a keto diet,” laments Dr. Berg, “but it’s not helping because the protein can’t get into your cells.”

To solve the problem, Dr. Berg modified the keto diet to make slimming effortless while turning back the clock. Like most keto diets, his plan cuts refined carbs, which drive insulin resistance and damage skin, in favor of healthy fats, which encourage fat burn. This allows women to lose an enormous amount of weight quickly. But while most keto diets limit carbs to 5% of total calories, Dr. Berg doubles that. “This doesn’t slow slimming and provides crucial nutrients other keto diets lack,” he asserts. That includes vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that reverse insulin resistance to allow BCAAs into cells, plus protect the skin against free-radical damage and boost the growth of muscle, elastin and collagen. “Your skin is made of what you eat. If you want taut, beautiful skin, you’ve got to feed it vitamins, minerals and fats,” asserts keto weight-loss expert Ken Berry, M.D. “Over time, you may even tighten up areas that were loose to begin with, like the back of your arms or under your chin.” All told, women FIRST spoke with report losing up to 12 pounds every week on this plan.

The benefits don’t end there: Women on Dr. Berg’s plan say it banishes brain fog and chronic pain and improves mood. Just ask 46-year-old Jennifer Christmas, who lost 132 pounds and got off her blood-pressure medicatioin. “I had so much energy from the start,” she raves. “This is the best plan in the world, and I’m in the best health of my life!” Ready to start?
