Diet tweak protects vision

-

Adopting a low-carb diet wards off glaucoma— the damaging high pressure in the eyes that’s a leading cause of vision loss in women over 50. In a 40-year study published in Eye Nature, subjects who swapped most of their carbs for plant-based fats and proteins, like nuts and beans, were 20% less likely to develop glaucoma. Carbs can cause vision-hampering inflammation in the nerves around the eyes. But fats and proteins protect the optic nerve, which sends visual cues to the brain.
