Make extra cash over the holidays

“I worked as a registered nurse for 14 years, but with four children, it had become challenging to manage everything! When I realized other people in my area also needed help trying to find balance while working full-time, I left my job and started Task Complete, a personal errand and concierge services company.

“To get the business off the ground, I filed for a business entity, bought insurance, set up my website (TaskComplete.com) and attended networking events. In the beginning, I helped my clients with errands and household tasks. The first holiday season, however, I realized people also needed help with their gift shopping, so I began to offer those services as well.

“When I meet a new personal shopping client (I work with individuals as well as companies that offer the service as a perk to their employees), we set up an appointment to review the list of people they need to shop for and the budget for each person. Some already know what they want to give, others need me to come up with creative ideas. I generally shop for items in the mall and online, but some clients want to give experiences like zip-lining, parachute jumps or wine tasting tours. I wrap and tag the gifts and give clients a spreadsheet so they know who gets what and they don’t buy the same gift again next year.

“I charge $45 and up an hour, make six figures a year and, during the holiday season, can bring in up to $30,000 a month. The money I make pays the bills, goes back into the business and allows our family to see musicals and take vacations. This work suits me because I’m a people person, I love to shop and every day is different. I also love that I never have to ask to take off for Christmas!”
