Takeoff Bet!

Thanks for another great issue (“Operation Torch,” August 2017). As for the prototype Seafire “landing,”

I’m betting it is a takeoff—the absence of flaps and the A-frame tailhook (the end of the hook is just visible below the “7”) looks to be stowed. Or perhaps the photograph is of a taxi right after landing (flaps up, hook up).
