ONCELOGIX

-

winston-salem, north Carolina

founders: trinity manning (ceo), rod brown, ty mclaughlin revenue: $4 million

employees: 15 when trinity manning, rod brown and ty mclaughlin founded oncelogix a dozen years ago and created an electronic health-records system used by mental health providers, the idea of keeping medical records online was anathema. oncelogix went directly to the consumer, cold-calling clients and going to conferences to spread the word. the result: its software has gained traction in 11 states, with a 12th, texas, in the works. the company’s culture, brown says, comes from being, defiantly, not a silicon Valley tech company. “we’re three black guys in the south who knew nothing about the tech industry and nothing about behavioral health care,” brown says. “we were not supposed to be able to do this.”
