Poppo, 53, is an old-school stockbroker who cut his teeth calling clients and poring over research for great stocks to pitch in the 1980s. Those days are gone. His fee-based practice is more about holistic wealth management, but he still can’t resist a bargain. “I put money where other people are not,” Poppo says. “MLPs that are yielding 6% to 10% are attractive as oil goes up.”
