Second Chance visits Food Bank in July

On Friday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Second Chance volunteers will be at the Fort Bragg Food Bank distributi­ng free Frontline+ flea/tick treatment for dogs. The Food Bank is located at 910 N. Franklin St. There will also be free collars, harnesses, sweaters, leashes, flea/tick shampoo, toys, and treats for the dogs. To get a collar, harness, or sweater, the dog must be brought to the Food Bank. Call 707- 964-7770 for more informatio­n.

Medicare Counseling

July date appointmen­ts for The Medicare Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) are available on July 9 and 23. HICAP will provide free and unbiased counseling, education and advocacy to all Medicare beneficiar­ies via a phone counseling session. Call 1-800- 434- 0222 (Senior Advocacy Services) to set up an appointmen­t.

Free canine shots clinic

On Friday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Second Chance will be sponsoring a free canine shots clinic at the Fort Bragg Food Bank, located at 910 N. Franklin St. Rabies shots, Kennel cough injections, Parvo, distemper, leptospiro­sis, etc. annual boosters, and microchip identifica­tions will be available. Dogs must be brought to the Food Bank for these services, and the dogs must be okay with being walked by a Second Chance volunteer from their owner to the veterinari­an and back again (a distance of about 40 feet). HazMobile collection July 10 and 11

The HazMobile household hazardous waste collection team returns to Fort Bragg Disposal, 219 Pudding Creek Road, on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The schedule and more informatio­n are available by calling the local Recycling Hotline, 707468-9704, or on the internet at MendoRecyc­le.org.

Pack Rat Sale canceled this year

The Friends of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are sorry to announce that the Pack Rat Sale, the greatest garage sale on the coast, scheduled for Saturday, July 11 is canceled due to concerns regarding exposure to COVID-19 in a large crowd, such as the sale usually draws. So mark your calendar for next year, July 10, 2021.

Trash Clean-up Day in Jackson State

On Saturday, July 11, Mendocino Coast Cyclists is teaming up with CAL FIRE for a trash cleanup day in Jackson Demonstrat­ion State Forest. Anybody who would like to help is invited to meet at the Caspar Scales between 9 and 11 a.m. for bags and instructio­ns. To reach Caspar Scales, drive from the highway up Fern Creek Road. Take a right on Caspar Orchard Road, then continue straight onto gravel for one-half mile on Caspar Logging

Road. Please do not drive through the neighborho­od on the one land section of Caspar Orchard Road. For informatio­n, contact Chad Swimmer, 707-530-5457. Bring gloves!

Junior Giants at Home

The Willits League Junior Giants at Home has officially launched with its free, virtual baseball season that brings the fun of the field to your home. The second four week season runs from the week of July 6 through the week of July 27. Two age-specific live sessions will be held per week led by Junior Giants AmeriCorps Ambassador­s. Kindergart­en registrati­on

Mendocino K8 School’s kindergart­en registrati­on is now open. A child is eligible for transition­al kindergart­en if their fifth birthday falls between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2. A child must turn five by Sept. 1 to be eligible for kindergart­en. Please come by the Mendocino K8 School office (Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or call 707-937- 0515 to begin the registrati­on process.

Summer Kids Bag Program

The Fort Bragg Food Bank’s summer kids bag program runs through the summer on Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m. The Food Bank will give families with children an extra bag of food every week. Pull up to the curbside. Put on your mask and open your trunk. Wait for their volunteers to load your food. And drive away with extra food. Partners in this program are the Mendocino Coast Children’s Fund, James G. Cummings Foundation and the Fort Bragg Unified School District.
