107 Years Ago June 25, 1913

• The city council met in regular session Monday evening all members present. G. Berrettini and Charles Ruschetti asked permission to hold dances in their places of business during the week of the Fourth which was granted. Twenty-nine liquor applicatio­ns were granted. Among the number the clerk was instructed to notify, three of the applicatio­ns granted, it being complained that their places were noisy and turbulent, that if they did not mend their ways, their licenses would be revoked. Ordinance No. 138, concerning the fire limits of the city, was read for the second time and passed. The city marshal was given authority to employ deputies for the Fourth — three days — not to exceed four men. Hotels and saloons are allowed to keep open on the nights of July 3rd, 4th and 5th.

• Russell Clark returned Saturday evening from Santa Rosa Business College; the school having closed for the summer vacation.

• The Aulin Brothers, in an effort to give their patrons the best of service, have just installed a late electric cigar lighter.

• Last evening was a big night for the Eastern Star, the following five members being initiated, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Barnett, Miss Edith Dellett, of Fort Bragg, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, of Glen Blair.

• We acknowledg­e the receipt of a card from Miss Vera French announcing her graduation from Santa Rosa High School on the 27th of June.

77 Years Ago July 7, 1943

• Director Mitchell Leisen of the Paramount Location Troupe at Albion is all smiles at the success he has been having the past week with the filming of “Frenchman’s Creek.” The weather has been perfect for technicolo­r shots and much film has been “canned” during the past week. The past few days has been spent in the Mendocino Woodlands, east of Mendocino, where a fishing scene has been filmed. The historic coach, pulled by four matched black horses, is used to drive Joan Fontaine, feminine star of the story, along the wooded road to a secluded spot along Big River where she meets Arturo de Cordova, the male star, and then they go fishing. From the coach, Miss Fontaine changes to a rowboat and then she and Cordova rowed down the river in what is used to be a beautiful fishing scene. The backwoods country of the woodlands is an ideal setting for the picture.

• Pvt. Robert Colombi is located at Camp Forest, Tenn., where he is in the anti-tank corps of the army. Pvt. Edward Colombi is in the glider squadron at Camp MacKall, North Carolina. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. E. Colombi.

• Pvt. Anthony Carine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Carine, is now located at Camp Tarzan, near Los Angeles, and handles the big searchligh­t that scans the skies for enemy aircraft at night.

55 Years Ago July 1, 1965

• The excitement of the restoratio­n of an historic old locomotive and passenger cars in Fort Bragg is the subject of KPIX REPORTS: — “Steam For The Super Skunk,” on July 5. In addition to showing the re-assembly of the locomotive, KPIX will take the television viewer on
