through ticket sales. Those funds are used to pay for materials that are used to make donated quilts. The organization supplies a quilt for every newborn on the coast. They also make quilts that are distributed to the hospital, sheriff and chaplains for people in crisis.

On the sidewalk along N. Harrison Street, the quilters gathered to show off their year’s work and to sell raffle tickets for the two quilts they give away each year.

Dee Goodrich, a local quilter who has won many awards in previous juried shows showed off her quilt “Turkish Delight.” She said it took her about 2 months to make.

“It’s sad that we can’t have our typical show. I’m glad the City allowed this. We can see our friends,” Goodrich said. She and the other quilters all wore masks and kept their distance while catching up on each other’s lives.

Nancy Herron-Tike displayed several of her quilts including a crazy quilt with objects from her family. Its focus was gloves and jewelry worn by her mother and handmade tatting made by her grandmother. The unique piece had a nostalgic quality that spoke to today’s situation.

Ocean Waves also had their 2021 raffle quilts out for a sneak peek. The theme for next year is “the ocean.” One of the raffle quilts next year has a whale applique, and the other is jewel box pattern in shades of blue and white. The raffle quilts are group projects made by Ocean Wave Quilters.
