Artists Co-op of Mendocino
Visual Artists + Writers = Ekphrasis IX 2020! For the ninth year, the Artists Co-op of Mendocino has collaborated with the Writers of theMendocino Coast culminating in a variety of exhibitions and presentations. This year’s Ekphrasis, from a Greek word meaning “art inspiring other art,” involved 20 pairs of writers and visual artists. For ten of them, visual artists responded to writings; for the other ten, writers responded to visual art. The participants were paired randomly and anonymously with identities withheld until the exhibitions.
Accommodating advisories for COVID-19, this year’s public events do not include large group gatherings. Instead they are celebrating with (1) the Ekphrasis IX Virtual Exhibition featuring all participants, installed Oct. 1 and accessible indefinitely on the Coopwebsite; (2) an October display by Co-op members of representative Ekphrasis Art, Oct. 7 throughNov. 2, at the Artists’ Co-op Gallery, and (3) public readings byWriters of theMendocino Coast in a Zoom meeting Oct. 18 (3 p.m., third Sunday). The readings by the Ekphrasis authors will be accompanied by a slide show of the associated art. The public is invited. Go toWritersMendocinoCoast.org for information on registering for this Zoom meeting. For the Ekphrasis Virtual Exhibition, go to artcoopmendocino.com/ekphrasis or go to the Co-op website.
