Winners of mask contest announced

- Contributed

Face masks are the “norm’” these days, so in the spirit of fun for the community, the Soroptimist of Noyo Sunrise club held a contest looking for the best original homemade mask.

This contest is meant to inspire fun and creativity, and will raise money for scholarships, awards and donations to various local and global projects.

Every mask was great — it was a hard choice! Cynthia Gair won first prize with her elaborate colorful “Eco Mask.”

“I put on my mask and become one with nature,” Gair said.

Diegolina Munoz’ mask “Mayan Flowers” is inspired by the Mayan culture and is hand- embroidered. Barbara Judd’s humorous creation “Pencil Tooth” is handy for pencils, paper clips and saber teeth! Lauren Sinnot t ’ s “Artgoddess” creation is one of her patterns that can be downloaded, and Sarah Ginskey’s Jellyfish was created with glass pebbles and black thread on the arms and body.

Here are all the 2020 winners:

• First Place: Eco Mask (Cynthia Gair)

• Second Place: Mayan Flowers ( Diegolina Munoz)

• Third Place: Pencil Tooth ( Barbara Judd)

• Honorable Mention: Art Goddess ( Lauren Sinnott)

• Honorable Mention: My 8 arm compass Jellyfish (Sarah Ginskey)

All contestants above will receive prizes. First place will receive lunch for two, plus an emergency roadside kit, donated by Rhoads Auto Parts. The club is extremely grateful to the contest sponsors: David’s Deli, Frankie’s Pizza, Good Life Bakery, Harvest Market, Homestyle Café, Linda Moore, Los Gallitos, Rhoads Auto Parts and Round Table Pizza.

The club will be holding a new contest starting in January 2021 with a spring theme, to be announced.
