Robert Arthur Sallinen of Palo Cedro, CA died on October 26, 2020 at the age of 93.

Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran, & served our country during World War II.

He was the heart of his large and diverse family, a loving and caring husband, father, & grandfathe­r, and a mentor to his children, grandchild­ren, and family.

He is survived by the love of his life, & wife of 72 years, Beverly Jean (Alameda) Sallinen, & their 5 children (Robert Jr., Donald , Debra Halter, David, & Diana). He also leaves behind 22 grandchild­ren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; Christophe­r Sallinen & Sophia (Mankinen) Sallinen; & his 8 his siblings.

Born in Fort Bragg, CA. on July 27, 1927, Bob grew up on the Sallinen homestead (now the F.B. Trout Farm). He was a second generation native to the Mendocino coast, attended Caspar School, & graduated from Mendocino High School.

Bob was a man of many talents. He worked at the Caspar Mill, helped build the Coyote Dam, owned a logging truck, helped build the Caspar Bridge, & worked at “Paladini’s Seafood Company”. Beverly & he ran the Mendocino Hotel & Restaurant (also the Ice Cream Parlor, UPS & Greyhound Depots), had 3 antique stores, & were innkeepers/owners of the Glass Beach B & B Inn & the Mendocino Village Inn. His greatest talent was his outstandin­g carpentry & craftsmans­hip, & is credited with restoring multiple historic buildings on the Mendocino coast including the Mendocino Village Inn, the Glass Beach B&B Inn (for which he received an award from the Fort Bragg Chamber), & the National Historic Registry’s ‘Stewart House’ in Fort Bragg.

Bob’s life revolved around his wife and family, valuing family love and devotion, a sense of fun & humor, curiosity, honesty & integrity, strong work ethics, tolerance, & forgivenes­s. He enjoyed years of happy times camping, fishing, boating, water skiing (at 85 years old), & RV traveling. He loved being in the redwoods, on the beaches and lakes, & at on the ocean. He had a keen interest in science and history, & often saw life through the eyes of a curious child.

A celebratio­n of Bob & his remarkable life will be announced at a later date.
