Gilmore “Gil” Perla

Another member of the Greatest Generation passed away on May 30, 2020 due to complicati­ons from the Covid-19 virus. Gilmore “Gil” Perla was 99 years old.

Gil was born in Bayambang, Pangasinan in the Philippine­s in the year 1921. He lost his parents at a young age and grew up on the streets of Manila. He joined the military prior to WWII, survived the Bataan Death March, and became a US citizen post war.

With his young family, he immigrated to America mid-1950s, enjoyed a military (Philippine Scouts, Military Sea Transport Service, Air National Guard, US Air Force) career as an NCO, and retired in Sacramento, California.

Father to Marni (Rod) Kelleher, Ben Perla and Josie Perla. Lolo to AnaLisa , Jolie and Mele. Preceded in death by Rosie, his beloved wife of more than 60 years, on April 28, 2004 and beautiful granddaugh­ter, Alysha, on February 14, 2018.

Gil was an active member and held offices in the following organizati­ons: Filipino Community of Sacramento; American Legion, Magellan Post #604; Forty and Eight La Societe; VFW Post #11166 Fort Bragg; VFW Post #4647 North Highlands and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid bowler and belonged to several bowling leagues, participat­ing in tournament­s in Nevada and California.

Gil lived by the motto: Life is short, set aside five to ten minutes daily for your worries, then forget them and enjoy the rest of the day!! His smile and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Due to Covid 19 restrictio­ns, interment at the Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, CA will be announced at a later date.
