Logging industry now eligible for vaccine in Mendocino County

UKIAH >> Mendocino County health officials announced Friday that people who work in the logging industry “are now included in the current Agricultural Workers vaccination tier and immediately eligible” to receive Covid-19 vaccinations.

“We are hoping that all the farmers, ranchers and food producers of Mendocino County will take advantage of the upcoming vaccine events,” Darcie Antle, Mendocino County Vaccine Coordinator, is quoted as saying in a Friday press release.

Mendocino County Public Health Officer Dr. Andy Coren also explained in the press release that a post “on the Mendocino County Facebook page mistakenly included “Lodging” personnel as part of the current vaccination group.

“We would like to clarify that this group was erroneously included with the individuals currently eligible for vaccination,” Coren said. “(However), if there are lodging personnel who are directly involved in the preparation of food and/or food services, those persons are eligible for vaccinations now.”

Next week, the host will host two “First-Dose” clinics for Phase 1A, Tiers 1 and 2 of Phase 1B, which includes Agricultural, Logging Industry Workers and those over 65 years of age. The vaccination events are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, March 1 and 3, and both will be held at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah.

As of Sunday morning, the county was reporting 10 new cases of Covid-19 for a total of 3,811. The daily average of positive new cases continues to fall, and was down to 6.57 by latest count. The percentage of positive tests remained the same at 5.60 percent.

A total of six people were hospitalized with the virus, including three in the Intensive Care Unit.
