FBUSD reopens campuses to older students
MUSD also set to return later this month
FORT BRAGG >> Now that Mendocino County has entered into the less-restrictive Red Tier, Fort Bragg Unified School District has announced it will reopen campuses to students in 7-12 grades.
The reopening will be staggered, as was the plan for the younger students’ return earlier this month. “B Day” students will return Thursday, March 18. “A Day” students will return the following Monday, March 22.
Schools must wait at least 24 hours to reopen after the county enters the Red Tier, FBUSD Superintendent Becky Walker said in an email to parents.
“I am receiving conflicting reports of when we can reopen due to this 24-hour wait time,” Walker wrote. “Therefore, we will reopen on Thursday, March 18, as planned.”
Letters were mailed home to families last week and messages were also sent via Parent Square.
“We are incredibly excited to have our students return this Thursday, March 18,” Walker wrote. “Please contact your student’s teacher or school administration if you have questions. Thank you for your patience and continued support. This has been a truly historic year.”
Mendocino Unified School District school has also agreed on a reopening date: At its March 11 board meeting, the School Board voted to reopen to in-person learning.
TK through second grade will open March 29; third through sixth 6th grade will open April 5, and seventh and eighth grade will open April 19. K-8 will also be on an AM/PM schedule.
Parents and guardians should attend one of the following, MUSD-specific Parent Orientations at 5 p.m., March 18; 5 p.m., March 23; or 8:30 a.m., March 25 at https://tinyurl. com/musdreopen.
Sixth-grade Program Verification Forms have been mailed out and are due back to the K-8 office by March 17. Seventh and eighth-grade program verification forms will be sent out this week.
