Memorial Tournament nominations

-

Rack ‘em up!

For the second week, Angelina’s Grill and Bar Team #1 has shown team spirit by hanging on for a late win. They were losing to a determined foe, the Welcome Inn Team #2, when their Captain wished them luck and left. The Team dug in, held on, and tied the Match in the twelfth game. They needed to win this match to have any hope of making it to the playoffs. Their foe, Welcome Inn team # 2, had more wins and were closer to being in the playoffs if they won. Schelagh Fredson played for Welcome Inn. Don Barsell played for Angelina’s Grill and Bar, and Don won his second tie-breaker win in the past two weeks.

If you have someone you wish to nominate for the Memorial Tournament, please make them known. We are behind on having the Memorial Tournaments. League will be on break soon, and Welcome Inn has the Trophy and will host the Tournament. Let’s get names put forward and decide. Remember, proceeds go to supporting a local student or family. The Tournament gives a time and place to remember past players while having an opportunity to contribute to the Fort Bragg Community at large.

Clyde Kalk is new to the Fort Bragg Pool League, playing only a few games last season. This season, Clyde is playing a different pool game. Safety plays are new for Clyde, and he never considered safety a viable pool shot until a few weeks ago. If you play him now, though, he may play one at any moment. You are missing out if you are not using safety play to improve your table layout. It is supposed to make it difficult for your foe to hit their ball first and can change the favorite to win in one shot. You place the cue ball anywhere on the table after a successful safety play, thus increasing your odds of a win.

Are you one of the players who don’t get enough games during Tuesday Night League? Start a Thursday Night League. Will it be complicated? Copy Tuesday Night League, and name it Thursday. Players often wish the Tuesday Night Pool League would have more players playing regularly. How? Wishing? Tuesday Night League has room for 48 regular players, and 110 people are signed up on League rosters.

A Thursday Night League eases the growing pains and offers everyone a new rivalry between Leagues.

Look for someone you might know and where they are playing. You might meet up with them, make new friends, or watch as the 8-ball pool games unfold. The League Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and usually ends before 10 p.m. Tournaments, when held, are generally open for everyone who wants to play.

Cue Tip: Do you adjust the speed of your pool game because of how you feel or whom you play? Rhythm is essential in nearly everything, including playing pool and looking at the table layout for 4 seconds or 4 minutes before your shot should not change your pre-shot routine. A pre-shot routine is when you perform the same actions before the shot. Use the routine for every shot, and a rhythm will develop that will help prevent you from ever again hurrying a pool shot.
