The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with the Bronze Lens Film Festival, will host a screening of Ava Duvernay’s extraordinary documentary, “13th.” Titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery, except as punishment for a crime, this compelling film examines the intersectionality of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States. Community activist and attorney Mawuli Davis will facilitate a post-screening panel discussion. Discussants include: Lee Reid, executive director of Atlanta Citizen Review Board; Azadeh Shahshahani, legal and advocacy director of Project South; and Briana Jenkins, project manager with Forever Family, Inc. This event is free and open to the public at People of all walks of life, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations and genders will rise together across the nation for the Rise Up 5K in beautiful Grant Park.
