The Auburn Av­enue Re­search Li­brary, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Bronze Lens Film Fes­ti­val, will host a screen­ing of Ava Duver­nay’s ex­tra­or­di­nary doc­u­men­tary, “13th.” Ti­tled af­ter the Thir­teenth Amend­ment to the United States Con­sti­tu­tion, which abol­ished slav­ery, ex­cept as pun­ish­ment for a crime, this com­pelling film ex­am­ines the in­ter­sec­tion­al­ity of race, jus­tice and mass in­car­cer­a­tion in the United States. Com­mu­nity ac­tivist and at­tor­ney Mawuli Davis will fa­cil­i­tate a post-screen­ing panel dis­cus­sion. Dis­cus­sants in­clude: Lee Reid, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of At­lanta Cit­i­zen Re­view Board; Azadeh Shahsha­hani, le­gal and ad­vo­cacy di­rec­tor of Project South; and Bri­ana Jenk­ins, project man­ager with For­ever Fam­ily, Inc. This event is free and open to the public at Peo­ple of all walks of life, eth­nic­i­ties, re­li­gions, sex­ual ori­en­ta­tions and gen­ders will rise to­gether across the na­tion for the Rise Up 5K in beautiful Grant Park.
