અમેરિકામાં ડોનાલડ ટ્રમ્પ અને જો બિડેન વચ્ેના પ્ેબિડેન્ટ્પદના તા. 3 નવેમિિના મુખ્ય ચૂં્ટણી જંગમાં વહેલા ચૂં્ટણીના ગ્યા િપ્ાહે શરૂ થ્યેલા ટ્રેન્ડિમાં કે્ટલાક િાજ્યોમાં નવા િેકોડ્ડ સથ્પા્યા છે. ્યુએિ ઈલેકશન પ્ોજેક્ટે આ્પેલી િત્ાવાિ માબહતી અનુિાિ ગ્યા િપ્ાહે – શુક્રવાિ િુધીમાં જે લોકો વહેલું કે ્પોસ્ટથી વોર્ટંગ કિવા એબલબજિલ છે તેવા 22 બમબલ્યનથી વધુ મતદાિોએ વોર્ટંગ કિી નાખ્યું હતું, જે એક િેકોડ્ડ છે. અગાઉની 2016ની ચૂં્ટણીમાં આ તિક્ે લગભગ 6 બમબલ્યન લોકોએ જ વોર્ટંગ ક્યુું હતું. જાણકાિો, બનષણાતોના મતે હાલમાં કોિોના વાઈિિના િોગચાળાના કાિણે મો્ટી િંખ્યામાં લોકોએ વૈકલલ્પક રદવિે વોર્ટંગ મા્ટે બવનંતી કિી હતી.

તો જનમતના પ્વાહો મુજિ ચૂં્ટણીનો રદવિ નજીક આવતો જા્ય છે તેમ તેમ જો બિડેનની મતદાિોમાં લોકબપ્્યતા વધુ મજિૂત થતી જા્ય છે. ટ્રમ્પના િિેિાશ 42 ્ટકા િમથ્ડકોની િામે બિડેનના 52 ્ટકા િમથ્ડકો તાજા ્પોલિમાં દશા્ડવા્યા હતા.

્ટેકિાિમાં ્પોસ્ટલ વોર્ટંગને મજં િુ ી મા્ટેના બન્યમો ખિૂ જ કડક છે અને ત્યાં મગં ળવાિે (13 ઓક્ટોિિ) ્પહેલા રદવિે વોર્ટંગનો એક નવો િેકોડ્ડ સથ્પા્યો હતો. તો જ્યોર્જીઆમાં િોમવાિે ્પહેલા રદવિે 126,876 નું વોર્ટંગ થ્યું હત,ું જે િાજ્યનો નવો િેકોડ્ડ છે.

િન્ે ઉમેદવાિોની ભાગ્ય ્પલ્ટી શકવાની ક્ષમતા ધિાવતા મનાતા, મહત્વના લસવંગ સ્ટે્ટ ઓહા્યોમાં 2.30 બમબલ્યનથી વધુ લોકોએ ્પોસ્ટલ િેલે્ટ મા્ટે બવનંતી કિી છે, જે ગત ચૂં્ટણી કિતાં ડિલ િંખ્યા છે. અત્યાિિુધી મળતા િી્પોરિ્ડ એવું િૂચવે છે કે, િજીસ્ટડ્ડ ડેમોક્રેરિે િજીસ્ટડ્ડ િી્પલ્લકનિની તુલનાએ ભાિે પ્માણમાં વોર્ટંગ ક્યુું છે, િન્ે વચ્ેનો તફાવત કદાચ 100 ્ટકાથી વધુ છે. વહેલું વોર્ટંગ કિનાિા ડેમોક્રેરિમાં મબહલાઓ તેમજ ્લેક અમેરિકનિની િંખ્યા નોંધ્પાત્ર છે.

આ વખતે ્યુવા મતદાિો મો્ટી િંખ્યામાં વોર્ટંગ કિી િહ્ા છે. િિાક ઓિામા અમેરિકાના ્પહેલા ્લકે પ્ેબિડેન્ટ ચૂં્ટા્યા તે 2008ના ઈલેકશન ્પછી ્યુવા મતદાિોની િંખ્યા આ વખતે વધી જશે એવા અંદાજો છે.

એકિીઓઝના તાજેતિના એક િવવે મુજિ ્યુબનવબિ્ડ્ટીમાં ભણતા ્યુવા મતદાિોના 40 ્ટકાએ એવું કહ્ં હતું કે, ટ્રમ્પ આ વખતે જીતે તો તેઓ તેના બવિોધમાં દેખાવો કિશે. એની તુલનાએ િવવેમાં આવિી લવે ા્યેલામાંથી ફક્ત 3 ્ટકા બવદ્ાથથીઓએ જ બિડેન ચૂં્ટા્ય તો તેની િામે દેખાવો કિવાના િંકેતો આપ્યા હતા.

એક્પણ ્પોલમાં ટ્રમ્પનું િમથ્ડન 45 ્ટકા િુધી ્પહોંચ્યું દેખાતું નથી, તો લગભગ દિેક ્પોલમાં બિડેનનું િમથ્ડન 50 ્ટકા કે તેથી વધુ જણા્ય છે.

િતત નીચા ્પોલિ અને ઘ્ટતી લોકબપ્્યતાના ્પગલે ટ્રમ્પના બનવેદનોના િેફામ્પણામાં ્પણ વધાિો થ્યો છે. િોમવાિે (19 ઓક્ટોિિ) તો તેમણે ડો. એનથની ફૌિીને ્પણ ‘ઈરડ્ય્ટ’ કહી દીધા હતા. ફૌિીએ એવું કહ્ં હતું કે, ટ્રમ્પ જે િીતે વત્ડતા હતા, તેના કાિણે તે કોિોનાની ઝ્પ્ટમાં આવી ગ્યા તે િાિતે તેમને સહેજે નવાઈ નથી લાગી. તો ટ્રમ્પે એવું કહ્ં હતું કે, ફૌિી તો િૌથી મો્ટી દુઘ્ડ્ટના છે. તેની િલાહ ્પોતે માની હોત તો આખું અમેરિકા આજે બનિાશાની ગતા્ડમાં ધકેલાઈ ગ્યું હોત.

EARLY voting for the November 3 presidential election begins in the crucial battleground state of Florida on Monday as a record 28 million Americans have already cast ballots with barely two weeks remaining in the campaign.

President Donald Trump, running out of time to change the dynamics of a race that polls show him losing, will visit Arizona on Monday after holding a rally in Nevada on Sunday and urging his supporters to vote amid signs that Democrats are leading the surge in early voting.

His Democratic challenger Joe Biden, who campaigned in another key state of North Carolina on Sunday, will spend the day at his home base in Delaware, while his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, heads to Florida to encourage supporters to vote early.

Florida is widely seen as a must-win for Trump, whose path to victory becomes razor-thin if he loses the southern state. The state’s prize of 29 electoral votes is tied with New York for third most, behind only California and Texas, in the race for the 270 Electoral

College votes that determine the presidential winner under the US system.

The October 7-14 Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Biden with 49 per cent of the support and Trump 47 per cent, within the survey’s credibility interval of four percentage points.

Both campaigns have poured advertising money into Florida, although Biden, who has significantly outraised Trump since the summer while setting consecutive monthly records for a US candidate, has outspent his Republican rival.

Harris, who was given a clean bill of health after an aide tested positive for Covid-19, will participate in early-vote rallies in Orlando and Jacksonville, the campaign said.

The 27.9 million Americans who have already voted either by mail or in person, according to the US Elections Project at the University of Florida, is a far greater number at this point

in the campaign than previous years. Voters have now cast about 20 per cent of the overall total in 2016, when more than 136.6 million cast ballots.

Democrats account for 55 per cent of the 10.9 million ballots cast in states that report party registration data, compared with 24 per cent for Republicans.

At a rally in Carson City, Nevada on Sunday, where voting began the day before, Trump implored his supporters to ‘get out and vote’ to help him flip a state that he lost narrowly to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Despite his recent recovery from his own bout with the virus, Trump also mocked Biden in Nevada for his cautious approach toward the pandemic.

‘Listen to the scientists!’ Trump said in a mocking voice. ‘If I listened totally to the scientists, we would right now have a country that would be in a massive depression.’

In North Carolina, a battleground where 1.4 million, or 20 per cent, of the state’s registered voters had already voted as of Sunday morning, Biden urged residents to cast ballots as soon as possible, and attacked Trump for saying the country had ‘turned the corner’ on the pandemic.

‘Things are getting worse, and he continues to lie to us about circumstances,’ Biden said.

Biden and Trump debate for a final time on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Meanwhile, a total of 120,000 posts on Facebook and Instagram have been withdrawn for attempting to ‘obstruct voting’ in the US presidential election and 2.2 million ads have been rejected, Facebook’s vice president Nick Clegg said in an interview published Sunday.

In addition, warnings were posted on 150 million examples of false information posted online, the former British deputy prime minister told the French weekly Journal du Dimanche.

Facebook has been increasing its efforts to avoid a repeat of events leading up to the 2016 US election, won by Donald Trump, when its network was used for attempts at voter manipulation, carried out from Russia.

There were similar problems ahead of Britain’s 2016 referendum on leaving the European Union.

‘Thirty-five thousand employees take care of the security of our platforms and contribute for elections,’ said Clegg, who is vice president of global affairs and communications at Facebook.

‘We have established partnerships with 70 specialised media, including five in France, on the verification of information,’ he was quoted as saying in the newspaper.

Clegg added that the company also uses artificial intelligence which has ‘made it possible to delete billions of posts and fake accounts, even before they are reported by users’.

Facebook also stores all advertisements and information on their funding and provenance for seven years ‘to ensure transparency,’ he said.

In 2016, while he was still deputy prime minister, Clegg complained to the Journal du Dimanche that Facebook had not identified or suppressed a single foreign network interfering in the US election.

On Wednesday, Trump rebuked Facebook and Twitter for blocking links to a New York Post article purporting to expose corrupt dealings by election rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter in Ukraine.

A day earlier Facebook announced a ban on ads that discourage people from getting vaccinated, in light of the coronavirus pandemic which the social media giant said has ‘highlighted the importance of preventive health behaviours.’

Twitter on Sunday removed a ‘misleading’ tweet downplaying the efficacy of masks posted by a top coronavirus adviser to Trump, while US cases surged.

As the Trump administration fends off accusations that its mixed messaging on wearing masks hampered the fight against the coronavirus, Dr. Scott Atlas continued to minimize the importance of masks with a Twitter post on Saturday, saying, ‘Masks work? NO.’

Twitter Inc removed the tweet on Sunday, saying it violated its misleading information policy on Covid-19, which targets statements that have been confirmed to be false or misleading by subject-matter experts.
