MAKE LASTING MEMORIES

The top 3 unforgettable things to do at South Seas Island Resort

-

You may be tempted to spend your time on Captiva Island lolling poolside or sunbathing on the beach, and that’s OK. But there are so many other ways to enjoy your visit to South Seas Island Resort. So why not mix it up? Start by exploring your natural surroundings by water or land. Add an evening around a firepit with family, friends or that special someone. And allow plenty of time for hanging out on Sunset Beach, where you can fill your day with fun activities and in the evening catch a glorious sunset over the Gulf of Mexico’s sparkling waters.

1 NATURE

It’s called the great outdoors for a reason. At South Seas Island Resort, you’re part of a 330-acre protected wildlife sanctuary, where bottlenose dolphins, West Indian manatees, great egrets, white ibis and Cuban anole lizards are your neighbors.

There are plenty of fun activities and adventures to help you enjoy it all. The beaches are world famous for shelling. Grab a bucket and hit the shore to gather seashells in all shapes and sizes, from fans and bonnets to the rare junonia—if you’re lucky.

Kayak tours through mangrove forests are a great way to get up close with nature. Dolphin adventures and epic fishing excursions take you to the deeper waters.

On land you can explore Captiva Island by bicycle or on foot along pathways that offer opportunities to spy on nature. You might spot an osprey in a tall tree or a family of ibis along the edge of the road. There are so many ways to get around, so meander at your own pace and take it all in.

2 SPEND S’MORE TIME TOGETHER

At South Seas, you can have a private s’mores experience on the beach—one designed especially for couples. You’ll enjoy a beach set-up, complete with a firepit. Here you can pop a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and share a toast. Pair your bubbly with Dylan Chocolate Bars and handcrafted marshmallows for an over-the-top version of a s’more. Linger until dark on this sandy stretch, where you’ll feel like you’re on a secluded island.

Families can also enjoy an evening around a firepit and share the time-honored tradition of roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Firepits are available for a fee at Sunset Beach and Harbourside.

3 ENJOY ALL THAT SUNSET BEACH HAS TO OFFER

When you arrive at Sunset Beach, you’ll be met by a friendly South Seas staff member who will set you up with a chair, an umbrella, and anything else you need for your day of fun in the sun. Choose from a selection of bites, salads and wraps, which are perfect for a beachday lunch or snack. The full bar offers plenty of refreshments: soft drinks, beer, wine and a full menu of South Seas signature drinks.

If you feel like adding some activity to your day, Sunny Island Adventures is right on the sands, offering water-sports options from stand-up paddleboards to Waverunners and more. And there’s no reason to leave the beach when hunger hits. Attitudes Beach Bar and Latitudes Food Shack are also nearby, just off the 9th hole of the adjacent golf course.

As the day winds down, the fun doesn’t. Live music, flaming firepits, and tiki torches signal the end of the day. You can really get a taste of island life at the nightly Sunset Celebration. Everyone ventures down to the water to make a wish on a seashell, which they then throw into the sea. This is the spot on Captiva, where Southwest Florida sunsets are unmatched.
