KIDS LOVE TO SHOP

Beach toys, souvenirs and cool clothes for the youngsters

- BY KLAUDIA BALOGH

Plan a shopping spree with your kids. You’ll find merchandise for children and teens at the resorts’ shops on Captiva and Sanibel, as well as in the stylish boutiques tucked in shopping plazas. At South Seas Island Resort, the whole family can pick out a cool logo shirt, sweatshirt, ball cap and beach towel from the racks at the SOUTH SEAS ISLAND OUTFITTERS AND RESORT LOGO SHOP. And if you’re looking for fun pool toys from noodles to inflatables, pop into the neighboring Snook Shack. If you still didn’t find what you want, check out the games, books and pool toys at the SHIPS STORE. One last stop is SCOOPS & SLICES, where a selection of stuffed animals complements the candy and ice cream offerings.

Just outside the resort in Chadwick’s Square, shoppers can visit BEACH LIFE and H2O OUTFITTERS. These stores carry what your small fry needs for a stay on the islands, including swimsuits, breathable T-shirts and sandals.

Periwinkle Place on Sanibel’s main thoroughfare Periwinkle Way is home to Little Peach, which is nestled inside the upscale women’s boutique Peach Republic. Here you’re treated to a collection of brightly colored clothing from sizes 0 to 14. Everything from onesies for the newborn to casual play clothes and swimwear are on the racks. Look for girls’ sundresses in perky island and nautical prints. There’s also a selection of flip-flops for little feet.

If your child didn’t find that special seashell combing the beach, you can stop at the She Sells Sea Shells store and search their eclectic inventory of shells and exotic sea life. Handmade shell crafts and ornaments in shapes of animals and flowers are among the offerings, as well as jewelry, books and craft supplies ideal for children and adults.
