Inspiring Women

- Kimberly Inlander Editor in chief

When you look at the mastheads on this page and the next, you will notice, if you haven’t already, that FXExpress Publications, Inc. is a majority women-led company. I couldn’t be prouder to say I work with strong, inspiring women leaders day in and day out, and what better month to celebrate than March, designated Women’s History Month?

Women’s History Month’s origins date back to 1981, when the U.S. Congress and the president declared the week beginning March 7, 1982, as Women’s History Week. Over the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions for a week in March to be known as Women’s History Week, until in 1987 the whole month was designated Women’s History Month. It celebrates the achievements and contributions women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.

One of my favorite examples of inspiring women in history is the players on the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, formed when the majority of men were fighting during World War II. When I was a young girl, A League of Their Own, a fictionalized account of the women of the AAGPBL, was one of my

4 favorite movies and frequently watched in my house. It even inspired me to ask my dad to take me on a trip to Cooperstown, New York, to see the exhibit dedicated to these women at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Who are some of the women in history that inspire you?

You might find one such inspiring leader on page 46, where Irene Rawlings highlights some of the world’s top women hoteliers. On page 79 Mary Melnick takes us to some of the women-led airports around the globe. We also recap our milestone 20th GT Tested Reader Survey awards event on page 36. It’s a fitting time to celebrate the event as we get ready to kick off our 2024 events next month with our Wines on the Wing airline wine survey.

Where else do we travel this month? We’re in Toronto, San Antonio, Athens, Bern, Cape Town, Tokyo, the Jersey Shore, Udaipur, Rio de Janeiro and the Cayman Islands. Join us in May when we announce the winners of the Leisure Lifestyle Awards!
