GARTH & TRISHA LAST-DITCH DIET!

300-lb. cowboy king & 200-lb. wife trying to slim by Labor Day

CHUBBY country couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are on a giant health kick, vowing to peel off a whopping combined total of 200 pounds this summer, an insider says!

Sources tattle six-foot Garth, a college javelin star, is smashing the scales at over 300 pounds, while his five-foot-eight missus is hitting around 200 — and the weight’s got them down.

“They’re sick and tired of feeling worn out and sluggish all the time,” snitches the insider. “They’ve been avoiding mirrors for years, but they finally had to face the truth.

“They looked at each other and couldn’t lie anymore. It was a case of: ‘You look fat because you ARE fat!’”

A source says they’ve each lost about 20 pounds, but have a long way to go. Garth’s target is 160 pounds, and Trisha’s is 140, according to insiders.

While Garth, 58, cut back his schedule in October 2000, Trisha, 55, has gone on to write three best-selling cookbooks and host her Emmy-winning show, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, on Food Network. Her yummy, fattening creations have ballooned their beltlines, sources say.

“Everything she makes on the show she tests at home, and Garth has always been a happy helper,” dishes the insider. “He loves her fried chicken and waffle fries, and the meatballs and marinara are superb.

“All that good food has gone straight to their waists and they’ve been forced to diet.”

But Trisha’s changing her approach to cooking, making healthy salads and slimming soups at home and leaving her belly-busting recipes for the show, notes a source.

“They’re working with a trainer, hopping on the treadmill and stationary bike for cardio, plus doing sit-ups, pushups, squats and lunges for strengthening, and taking walks in the evening to burn off those dinner calories,” the insider notes.

They’re also consulting a nutritionist, who has them on a healthy balanced meal plan with fresh veggies, fish, chicken, quinoa, fruit, raw nuts and seeds, says the source.

Cheesecake is a no-no — if they crave something sweet, they reach for an apple.

The couple — who wed in 2005 after being pals for years — aim to record new music and “get back on stage and perform together, and that’s the incentive behind their gutbusting health kick,” says the insider.

“Garth dreams of making a big comeback and looking exactly as he did when they met.

“They both know they’ve got to change their lifestyle first.”
