10 THING YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT
HARRY POTTER’s Daniel Radcliffe has made the magical transformation from kid star to quirky adult actor. Since portraying the famous boy wizard in eight blockbuster movies, he’s played wildly varied roles including gay poet Allen Ginsberg and political prisoner Tim Jenkins. But Daniel steps into the world of parody in his most recent flick as the accordion-playing title character in the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Here are ten things you don’t know about the 33-year-old London-born Brit.
1 His voice started cracking due to puberty while filming 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone — the first film in the franchise — so some of his lines were dubbed by 13-year-old actor Joe Sowerbutts.
2 He discovered he had a nickel allergy after his metal Harry Potter eyeglass frames left him with contact dermatitis, so filmmakers were forced to swap out his specs.
3 He has a mild form of the neurological condition dyspraxia, a coordination disorder, which sometimes prevents him from tying his shoelaces.
4 He’s published several poems under the pen name Jacob Gershon — which is a combo of his middle name and the Yiddish version of his mother’s maiden name.
5 He accidentally drank water containing antifreeze on the set of the horror comedy Horns and recalls, “I got horrendously ill.”
6 He’s an atheist but calls his family “Christmas tree Jews.”
7 Since 2012, he’s dated his Kill Your Darlings co-star Erin Darke, who’s also appeared in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Dietland.
8 He’s a fan of rap music, and his favorite karaoke song is Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady.
9 He received personal accordion lessons from “Weird Al” Yankovic.
10 He’s never gotten a tattoo because he doesn’t want to make the work of movie makeup artists more difficult.
