- Evan Gerike

South Carolina women’s basketball freshman forward Sahnya Jah entered the transfer portal Monday.

Jah appeared in 16 games and averaged 3.1 points for the Gamecocks this season.

“Sahnya Jah officially entered the transfer portal today,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said in a release. “It is unfortunate that her time with us was short, but we wish her the best in the next steps of her career.”

Jah was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team on Feb. 8 and didn’t appear in another game during the season.

She scored a career-high eight points against Clemson on Nov. 16 and recorded seven rebounds and four assists two games later against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 24.

Jah, from Alexandria, Virginia, played her senior season of high school at Montverde Academy, helping the team to the 2023 GEICO High School National Championship. She was rated the No. 40 player overall in the Class of 2023 by ESPNW.

South Carolina will officially enter the NCAA Tournament with a 10-person roster and will have just nine players available in its first-round matchup. Senior center Kamilla Cardoso was suspended for one game after being ejected for her involvement in a scuffle at the end of South Carolina’s win over LSU in the SEC Tournament championship game.

The No. 1 Gamecocks will face the winner of the First Four matchup between No. 16 seeds Presbyterian and Sacred Heart. South Carolina will tip off its first-round game at 2 p.m. Friday (ESPN) in Colonial Life Arena.
