City of Spartanburg hires a new planning director
search for a new city planning director is complete.
The city on Monday announced the hiring of Fredalyn Michelle Frasier. She was chosen from four finalists and more than 250 candidates from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
As city planning director, Frasier will lead the planning department utilizing the city's comprehensive plan, which was approved by the city council last
August. She will start later in April.
The city began recruiting for a planning director late last year, according to Christopher George, communications manager.
The position has been vacant for at least a decade.
Frasier most recently served as the planning and urban design senior director for the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and Central Atlanta Progress, where she developed and manSpartanburg's aged programming elements for the city's downtown arts and entertainment district.
During her career, she has worked on teams and projects throughout the Southeast and the Bahamas, including post-Katrina planning efforts in New Orleans, the Lowcountry Model Communities Revitalization Master Plan in North Charleston, and the first comprehensive plan for the Town of Hilton Head Island.
