Choral society switches to virtual performances

GREENWICH — The Greenwich Choral Society has embarked on a program of recording virtual performances to share with the public on the internet.

Greenwich Choral Society announced that its first virtual performance will be of James E. Moore’s arrangement of “An Irish Blessing.” It will be available for viewing through the Choral Society’s website at www.gcs-ct.org.

The traditional song is a wellknown wish for prosperity, peace and God’s blessings, the Choral Society said. It is especially appropriate for a time when the pandemic has left people isolated and uncertain about the future, the Choral Society said.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Greenwich Choral Society has suspended group rehearsals and public concerts. Choristers have been recording their vocal parts in their homes and sending them to be combined in a computer program to create a final and full performance.

The Choral Society is also opening its weekly Zoom online rehearsals to anyone in the community who would like to find out more about creating choral music in this time of pandemic. No auditions are required to participate, just an interest in choral music and a desire to learn more about the Greenwich Choral Society and its members.

The Zoom rehearsals are every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9 p.m., until Dec. 15. The rehearsals are free. Those interested are encouraged to contact the Greenwich Choral Society by email at admin@greenwichchoralsociety.org for further details.

A cornerstone of the Fairfield County music scene, the Greenwich Choral Society presented its first concert in 1925 with 30 singers.
