YWCA to collect purses for Old Bags Luncheon THE DISH
Out there… Join the YWCA Greenwich for its annual Old Bags Luncheon Collection Event, which this year will take place virtually with a remote wine and cheese party at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25. The price of admission is either a donation of a new or gently used handbag or a minimum donation of $200. This is a way to support victims of domestic violence leading up to the iconic Old Bags Luncheon on May 6. Guests in the Greenwich area who reply by Feb. 16 will receive a delivery of wine and cheese on or before the event. Scene… The new Barneys at Saks on Greenwich Avenue is holding a special personalized shopping event for customers from Feb. 18 to Feb. 21, when it will donate 10 percent of the net proceeds of sales to benefit the Greenwich International Film Festival. Barneys New York, founded by American businessman Barney Pressman in 1923, went into bankruptcy in 2019, when Authentic Brands acquired the brand for licensing with other companies. Out there… Family Centers, a nonprofit human service agency, is hosting a two-part trivia event on Zoom at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, and Wednesday, March 10. Each game will feature three rounds of 15 fun general trivia questions. The event will also feature students from Literacy Volunteers who will

Piano art… It’s last call for artists for “The Piano Project, Art in Public Places,” an interactive sculpture exhibit sponsored
by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District. Jury selected artists will paint and decorate upright pianos that will be placed for anyone to play throughout Stamford Downtown from June through August. Out there… A free virtual celebration of the 13th annual statewide Darwin Day takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, thanks to the support of the Connecticut Coalition of Reason and others. It’s part of an international celebration of science held around Charles Darwin’s birthday to mark the discoveries and life of the man and his contributions to the advancement of humanity. James Prosek, an internationally acclaimed artist, author and conservationist, will be the evening’s speaker, with a talk on “The Nature of Reproducing Nature: From Drawing to Naming to Mimicry.” The event will also include audience participation in a challenging science quiz. Scene… Greenwich Library’s virtual “American Ancestors Series: Getting Started in African American Genealogy” takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18. The event will feature Meaghan E.H.
